North Miami – The Museum of Modern Artwork, North Miami (MOCA) is happy to announce an open name for South Florida-based artists to submit their work for the 2024 Artwork on the Plaza sequence. This system invitations artists to activate MOCA’s Plaza with non permanent public installations of site-specific artwork works, introducing and connecting the group with the breadth of the town’s distinctive and provoking creative hub.
Inaugurated in 2021 with a sequence of non permanent public artwork installations on MOCA North Miami’s entrance plaza, the sequence supplies a possibility for native artists to interact with the Museum and its group, using the bodily out of doors area as a platform to raise their works.
The 2023 sequence featured South Florida artists together with Edison Peñafiel, LIZN’BOW (Liz Ferrer and Bow Ty), Sterling Rook, and can shut with Chris Friday, whose work, Narcissist, goes on view November 29.
All through the years, MOCA has been championing the work of native artists whereas offering accessible alternatives for the group to take part and have interaction with the humanities by way of free and public programming. This sequence is a continuation of that mission, providing an up-close, hands-on expertise for area people members of all ages and backgrounds to witness the town’s evolving arts ecosystem.
Artists will submit a proposal for non permanent public artwork installations spanning three to 4 months in period. These submissions can be reviewed by a MOCA-appointed choice committee and picks can be introduced on January 27, 2024.
This 12 months, three artists can be chosen for installations to stay on view for 4 months. Every chosen artist can be supported by MOCA via the fabrication, set up, and programming for their challenge.
Throughout the plaza, artworks might incorporate the constructing’s façade, structure, the central fountain and embody free-standing components or light-based projections. Alongside the installations, the museum will host related programming to coincide with every artists’ occupation of the area all year long.
